About German verbs and time
Describe German routines with separable verbs, report past events with haben or sein, and use war and hatte for familiar past situations.
Keep the parts of a routine verb connected
Separable verbs give the sentence a visible frame. Practice a finite main clause, a modal construction and a dependent clause while preserving the same activity. The prefix belongs to the verb even when another phrase separates them.
Build a complete perfect construction
Past event descriptions need both an auxiliary and a participle. Learn reliable examples with haben and sein, then distinguish ordinary regular formation from irregular and prefix patterns. The lesson explains limits of simple movement based shortcuts.
Use compact past forms where they are useful
War and hatte describe past identity, location, states and possession. They occur naturally beside perfect descriptions of other events. Keep the underlying German expression intact when changing tense, especially with familiar phrases for hunger and available time.
